Cheap as hell, warm shaving cream, old school shave (real tight)...It's AMAZING. .

For less than $13 you get a tight cut and shave. You can't beat that.

I walked 3 blocks from my Soho office to experience a deliciously hearty tomato soup, grilled chicken avocado half sandwich (just how I like it with the toasted panini and yummy condiments), a gorgeous Brazilian bartender all while listening to The Cure.

For maybe $13. I have to go back to try the wine (the list looked excellent).  The place was cozy with a trendy yet unpretentious crowd...It reminded me of the marble top cafes in Old San Juan.

Cubans are not as cool as Puertorican (fact) but they can sure cook. This place was cute...Total hole in the wall. I ate elbow to elbow and the service sucked but the food was decent. I ate mashed platains for the first time.  A liter of good sangria went for $15 so after a few of those the service got better...Kinda like how dates get hotter after a few beers.

Sushi-Teq

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!

I am a sushi obsessed Puertorican so the idea of Latin infused sushi grabbed my attention. However, Sushi-Teq is not sushi. It's something else, something that transcends any sushi experience I've ever had. They fuse Latin flavors with the best quality sushi in Boston. It was ORGASMIC!

The place is small and intimate. I sat across my date (perfect spot for first dates) with the Boston Harbor behind me and an amazing color changing electric wall in front of me. The music is all Latin--salsa beats I haven't heard in ages! I think the date got a bit annoyed when I couldn't stop singing or when I offered the tipsy broad next to me a dance on the floor. I love older women.

But yea, Sushi-Teq is hot. 5 star service (they have 6 stars now don't they?). 6 star service! Oh and the drinks... Delicious! My buddy Wayne Duprey (the man) had me try their fruity-smoothie tequila shot trio. They went down a lot smoother than the Jose Cuervo shots from the night before.

Oceanaire

Category: Seafood
Neighborhood: Downtown

3 star rating
 01/30/2008  First to Review
last week I stuffed my face with freebies at the opening of Oceanaire, a new upscale seafood restaurant in 40 Court Street (between Treamont and Province St). They were doing just aps and drinks so I can't report on the quality of the menu just yet. It didn't help that I was allergic to 80% of the food served (shellfish) but the tuna bites and the mini desert samples were delicious. The most impressive thing about Oceanaire is the space, if you ignore a few tacky wooden pelicans that  look like they should be in a Key West tiki hut.

The space used to house an old bank-high ceilings, lots of marble, A VOLT, a HUGE bar and an over all majestic feel to it. I can't wait to go back and check out the food. Downtown Boston was is desperate need of a upscale seafood joint. God knows we have plenty of restaurants with $40 steaks. I was also very impressed by a server giving out glasses of Chardonnay when she gave me an in-depth description of the wine and its taste.

I'm giving Oceanaire 3 stars based on my experienced of the opening. It was super packed. The idea of standing in line for ten minutes for clam chowder in a upscale opening is a bit of oxymoron if you ask me.  They also don't have a website, which is a problem with so many restaurants in Boston. Where do you think most people go for information about restaurants? THE INTERNET. I guess for the time being Oceanaire is at the mercy of Yelpers

RumBa

Category: Arts & Entertainment
Neighborhoods: Financial District, Waterfront, South Boston

5 star rating

These monthly Champagne parties at RumBa are the new hot spot in Boston. It's a young and good looking crowd and the space is fabulous. What takes it to the next level is the attention to detail that these people put into these parties. I walked in through the open fire lit lobby to find RumBa buzzing with people in the heart of the hotel. Bubbles were flying everywhere, Champagne mojitos were being served from a bar made out of carved ice and there was even free chocolate covered strawberries and truffles that you had to snap off a chocolate covered ice cone. Can we say PIMP.

The music was amazing! It's so rare to find a trendy spot in the city that is not a club and that you can still dance. The DJ was great, people were dancing and they even had a video DJ projecting movie scenes and images above the dance floor to the beat of the music. The event is free and I got free champagne left and right, although that's just because I know people (who's the elite yelper now bitches).

Oh another awesome perk: You can drink outside while smoking a cigarette and overlooking the water. Where else can you do THAT in Boston? Had it been 20 degrees warmer with more fake breast implants and I would have sworn I was back home in Miami Beach.

The Oak Room

Category: Steakhouses
Neighborhood: Back Bay

4 star rating

The Oak Room is decadence. I felt like Al Pacino in Scent of a Woman- that scene where they're at the Oak Room in the Plaza Hotel in NYC and he dances with the hot chic...And nobody can even tell he's blind because he's so pimp.

Anyway, the cocktail list is beautiful. At $15 each it will take you back a bit, but it's worth it if you're looking for a memorable night. I had

1. Glass of soma Napa valley Cab (excellent)
2. Pomegranite Martini (too sweet but delicious)
3. Some holiday specialty martini (can't remember by this point in the night)
4. Something else...

They have an Engagement Martini that cost over $12,000. It's made with the finest liquors and comes with a diamond ring, two night stay in the hotel and some extra goodies. I've never seen anything like that.

The space, with the live jazz, high ceiling and the hand carved wooden walls totally transports you to a time people REALLY knew how to kick it in style. The Oak Room is absolutely grand and romantic. I actually saw a guy propose. Cute.

I'll go back to try the food and see if they earn the 5th star. I'm sure they will

Good Life indeed...That basement was PACKED! Lots of Yelptini spilling, good music pumping, sweaty bodies rubbing against each other. It reminded me of the underground club scene from The Matrix movie.

ANYWAY, Ligaya rules for putting this together and letting BuyYourFriendADrink.com party with the elite crowd.

PS: The Good Life burger is ridiculous- Delicious with a hugengous (huge and humongous together) mountain of rosemary fries.

Sorella's

Sorella has some of the best pancakes in the country according to this article which they flaunt on their front window http://www.flyertalk.c...

I waited fro 30 minutes during the Sunday snow storm to check out what the fuzz was all about and all I have to say is...Holy Pancakes! I got this thing called the Ben's Thunder- 4 banana pancakes (home made batter), with raspberries, strawberries, tons of whip cream and coconut flakes. It was life changing.

Plus I made a new friend while waiting for a table. Her name is Meg and we ate together. My next pancake experience will probably be the ginger strawberry thing every keeps talking about. They should really expand.
